This publication was released as part of the
Labor exhibition series at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin.
Dan Mihaltianu, a 1990s Berlin transplant from Bucharest, set the series in motion. His
Plaques tournantes revolve around the drifting, colliding continental plates, center and periphery, gravitational pull and flight.
Turntables, composed of video, audio, vinyl records and a variety of electronic devices, make up a room-sized installation that pivots on the classic standard of electronic entertainment: the 45 rpm single.
Labor 01 consists of a specially produced vinyl album and a publication that collects both pop culture and political photos placed beside an interview with the curator and becomes an extension to the exhibition itself. ‘The confrontation between the philosophy of young generations and ossified political ideologies produces social change.’
